Miley Cyrus is being sued for her 2023 song “Flowers,” as it allegedly copied from the 2012 track “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars. Tempo Music Investments claims to have partial ownership of the Mars song and has filed a lawsuit claiming “many musical similarities” between the two.

According to a report originally from TMZ, the suit claims that the chorus, harmony, melody, chord progressions, and lyrics of “Flowers” were taken from Mars’ song. The suit also accuses Cyrus of “intentionally copying” these aspects.

Per the lawsuit, “It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man.’” Additionally, not only is Tempo Music seeking monetary compensation in the suit, they also want to bar Miley Cyrus from distributing or performing “Flowers.”

If there is any truth to this lawsuit, a win for Tempo Music would be a devastating loss for Cyrus. “Flowers” has become one of her most popular songs, and to restrict her from performing it could significantly impact her career. It is important to note, however, that Bruno Mars is not named as a plaintiff in the suit.

Miley Cyrus “Sounds Like an Ashtray” According to Keith Urban’s Interesting Compliment

Recently, Keith Urban paid Miley Cyrus a bit of a questionable compliment. While appearing on an Australian radio show, Urban gushed about Cyrus’ voice and how her vocals have evolved.

“I love that voice, man, that voice,” said Urban. “She sounds like an ashtray. And I mean that as a compliment. She sounds like the carpet at the RSL!” While it may not be the most delicate of compliments, it’s a pretty accurate description of Cyrus’ voice now.

Miley Cyrus’ vocals have definitely changed since her bubble-gum Hannah Montana days. She’s matured stylistically and emotionally, and that maturity is reflected in her voice. However, that husky, raspy evolution isn’t just a stylistic choice.

In 2022, Cyrus underwent surgery on her vocal cords for Reinke’s edema, a condition that can be caused by overuse of the voice. Cyrus revealed this while on The Joe Rogan Podcast in 2023, per a report from HuffPost. “When my doctor told me about it, he said, ‘no one shy ever has this. This is for abuse of the voice,’” she admitted. “‘This is for people who talk way too f—ing much.’”
