The Beatles were (and are) no strangers to the film scene. As a band, they delivered several stellar feature films that captured their wit and talent. Moreover, there have been many documentaries made about their runaway success.

Separate from the Beatles’ efforts though, filmmakers have long been putting their own spin on the Beatles’ fame. From movies about their rise to the top to dramatic vignettes of youth, find our three favorite films inspired by the Beatles, below.

3 of the Best Movies Inspired by the Beatles

    1. Birth of the Beatles

The Beatles’ early years were pivotal in British rock. The band skyrocketed to fame, wowing countless screaming fans with their blues influenced sound. Because their rise to fame was so indelible in the world of rock it was, naturally, the subject of a feature film. In 1979, the band got the biopic treatment in a film called Birth of the Beatles. Though there are aspects of this film that Beatles fans have taken issue with in the past, it’s still a pretty stellar look into their whirlwind success.

    Well, she was just seventeen

If you know what I mean

And the way she looked was way beyond compare

So how could I dance with another?

Ooh, when I saw her standin’ there?

    2. Nowhere Boy

While most media inspired by the Beatles focuses on their time together as a band, Nowhere Boy seeks to humanize them–specifically John Lennon. This film centers Lennon in a coming of age story. Of course, there are mentions of the success he and his bandmates would later find, but a large part of the narrative sees the future Beatle grapple with family drama. It’s a unique look into the life of a rock great.

    3. “I Wanna Hold Your Hand

This film uses the Beatles’ life as a backdrop to a totally separate story. Set on the night the Fab Four is booked to play the Ed Sullivan show, a group of friends tries to sneak their way into the Beatles’ hotel, show, and any other opportunity they might get to see their favorite band up close. It’s a unique peek into Beatlemania.

    Oh, please, say to me

You’ll let me be your man

    And please, say to me

You’ll let me hold your hand

You’ll let me hold your hand

I want to hold your hand
