Back in June, news surfaced that Shifty Shellshock, the frontman for the band Crazy Town passed away at just 49 years old. A part of the music industry for over twenty years, the singer produced hits like “Butterfly.” But while growing a sizable fanbase throughout his time on stage, Shellshock struggled when it came to addiction. Besides a career in the studio, he also appeared on shows like Sober House and Celebrity Rehab, hoping to stay focused on his sobriety. Continuing to battle with his addiction, it appears the cause of death revealed exactly what led to his passing.

While taking three months to release the findings, the medical examiner report revealed that Shellshock passed away due to the effects of coc**ne, methamp****mine, and fent***l. Over the last few years, the rise in deaths surrounding fent***l caused even lawmakers to urge the government to take action.

Crazy Town’s Manager Howie Hubberman Remembers Shifty Shellshock

At the time of Shellshock’s passing, Crazy Town’s manager, Howie Hubberman, discussed how people surrounding the singer tried numerous times to get him to seek help. “Seth Binzer, after struggling with addiction and Crazy Town’s rapid success with ‘Butterfly,’ never was able to reach out on a more successful level to deal with his addictions. We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, or Shifty would still be here.”

Offering more information about Shellshock’s passing, Hubberman added, “The cause of death was a combination of prescription drugs and street purchased drugs. Shifty was a friend and really wanted to get himself fixed — unfortunately no one had the exact tools to do this, myself included.”

Not one to hide his problems from the world, Shellshock shared a post on his Instagram page, admitting, “I’m a lover than a fighter …but the one I need to love more Instead of fight with is myself .. mr shifty true Love # Sober alive and grateful.” After his passing, his fellow bandmates took a moment to remember their friend who shared his love for music while struggling with his addiction.
