This Riley Green Song Was the Unlikely Backdrop to a Concert Brawl

It’s a good time to be a Riley Green fan. The “”Different Round Here” singer is gearing up for an album release next month and a headlining tour next year. Like many country artists, Green’s catalog ranges from tender (“I Wish Grandpas Never Died”) to more lively (“There Was This Girl.”) During a recent show in Maryland, the ACM Award winner was stunned when several concertgoers started a fight during the unlikeliest of songs.

Riley Green Concertgoers Scrap During “Jesus Saves”

Fans have not found the cupboard bare in 2024 when it comes to new Riley Green music. In April, the Jacksonville, Alabama-born artist dropped the seven-track extended play Way Out Here. The devastating opening track, “Jesus Saves,” quickly became a fan favorite.

Green has said he was inspired to pen the heartbreaking ballad after repeatedly passing “the same guy” on the same Nashville street corner. “I guess it’s just the message of you never know what somebody’s been through,” he said.

In “Jesus Saves,” the narrator sits down with a homeless man and takes the time to hear his tragic story. Just the title alone suggests it should be the last song to incite a physical altercation among the crowd. However, that’s exactly what happened during Green’s Sept. 20 set in Frederick, Maryland.

Video footage of the incident circulating on social media shows a woman in the crowd yelling, “She pushed me first.” Multiple concertgoers attempted to intervene before security came over to break up the fight.

To his credit, Green finished his performance without batting an eye. He then addressed the situation, saying, “I’ve never witnessed anyone get into a scuffle during a song called ‘Jesus Saves’ before.”

Social media seemed to agree: “During Jesus saves is crazy work,” one TikTok user wrote.

Ella Langley Is Joining Riley On Tour Next Year

Riley Green and Ella Langley struck gold earlier this year with the playful collab “You Look Like You Love Me,” off Langley’s debut studio album Hungover.

Recently, the pair teamed up a second time for “Don’t Mind If I Do,” the title track to Green’s forthcoming third studio album. And next year, they’ll hit the road together for Green’s headlining ‘Damn Country Music’ Tour.
