Miranda Lambert went into tonight’s (September 25) People’s Choice Country Awards with two nominations. She is up for Female Artist of 2024 and Female Song of 2024 for “Wranglers.” Additionally, she’ll receive the Country Icon Award tonight. However, Lambert isn’t just a nominee. She also took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry House to perform “SONG/SONGS” from her new album Postcards from Texas.

The Country Icon Award winner kicked off her time on the Opry House stage with a fiery rendition of “Kerosene” from her first major label album. She followed the throwback performance with “Dammit Randy” from her latest album, beautifully bookending her career. At the same time, the pair of songs showed her range as a performer and songwriter.

    Accepting the Country Icon Award

After blowing the crowd away, Lambert took the stage to accept the Country Icon Award. “Y’all thank you so much. It’s so weird for me to stand up here and hold an Icon award,” she began. “I mean, to me an icon is like who I grew up listening to my daddy play like Jerry Jeff Walker, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, John Prine, those are my icons. So, the fact that I get this award tonight is just blowing my mind,” she added. “It’s a lot of years, beers, tears, and Tito’s if I’m being honest and I feel like I’ve been able to make so many great memories in my life and in my career because of fans. Because y’all allow me to keep creating all these years later. Some days I feel like I’ve done it 200 years and some days it feels like I’m just getting started,” she continued.

This is the second annual People’s Choice Country Awards and Lambert is the second to receive the prestigious Country Icon Award. Toby Keith was last year’s Country Icon Award winner, giving him one of his last honors before his passing in February. Jen Neal, executive vice president of live events and specials for NBCUniversal Entertainment spoke about honoring the “Bluebird” singer in a statement. “A tour de force in country music for more than 20 years, Miranda Lambert’s groundbreaking albums continue to capture the hearts of fans around the world,” Neal shared. “We’re so excited to celebrate her career, fierce individualism, and innovation in the industry with the Country Icon Award,” she added.

Miranda Lambert Went Back to Her Roots with Postcards from Texas

Before beginning production on Postcards from Texas, Miranda Lambert left her longtime label home in search of more artistic freedom. She found that freedom in a partnership with Republic/Big Loud. As a result, she was able to make the album she wanted to make. She co-wrote the bulk of the album’s tracks and co-produced the project with her longtime friend and collaborator Jon Randall.

More than having a supportive team, Lambert was able to go back to her home state of Texas to record the new release. Postcards from Texas marks her first record made in the Lone Star State since her independent debut more than two decades ago.
