Since the 1970s, the songwriter helped create some of the most memorable country hits like “Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart” and “ The Sound of Goodbye.” Prestwood even watched as three of his songs received nominations for a Grammy award. With a rich history in country music, Yearwood recently took a moment to honor Prestwood when news broke the songwriter passed away at 82.

Thanks to his contributions to country music, Prestwood eventually found his way into the Nashville Songwriters’ Hall of Fame alongside Jim Weatherly and Jimmy Buffett. He even used his talents to help other writers as he taught Advanced Songwriting. With the famed writer passing away, Yearwood posted a heartfelt message about Prestwood, reading, “Hugh Prestwood was a poet. “The Song Remembers When” is one of the greatest songs ever written, and I’m the lucky girl who got to sing it. It paints the beautiful picture of the power of music. We’re all lucky that Hugh decided to be a writer. I will miss his voice.”

Scotty Emerick kept things short and sweet, tweeting “Rip Hugh Prestwood” alongside a shared photo.
