Luke Bryan has no shortage of fans. In addition to selling more than 75 million records, the five-time Entertainer of the Year has been a beloved judge on American Idol since 2018. His latest album, Mind of a Country Boy, dropped Sept. 27, spawning his 36th Top 10 Country Airplay hit in the lead single “Love You, Miss You, Mean It.” It certainly would seem that Bryan has no one left to impress. However, there is one seal of approval he’s still angling for: that of his teenage sons.

Luke Bryan Wants His Kids To Think He’s Cool

Every parent wants to seem “cool” in the eyes of their teenage children. Even best-selling country artist Luke Bryan is no exception. During a Wednesday (Oct. 2) appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he admitted that he hopes to see Mind of a Country Boy become part of his sons’ daily rotation.

“It’s fun. And you know, I’m at home with my boys and they’re hearing the songs,” Bryan told Fallon. “My goal is to try to enter into their daily playlist on their phones.”

Bryan and wife Christine have two sons, Thomas “Bo” Boyer, 16, and Tatum “Tate” Christopher, 14.

“Because, like, my children get on the farm and then they have these little speakers on their little side-by-sides, and then they start blasting hip-hop and rap across the farm,” he said. “And they’re saying all of the words they’re not supposed to be saying. And then they pull back around the lake and it’s like, ‘The Mind of a Country Boy—then I hear that on their speaker.

“I’m like, ‘What have y’all been listening to?’” he continued. “They’re like, ‘Your album, Dad.’”

What Is ‘Idol’ Like With Carrie Underwood?

American Idol will kick off its 23rd season next spring, with season 4 champ Carrie Underwood joining Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie on the judging panel. Speaking with Jimmy Fallon, Bryan shared some insight into Underwood’s return to set 20 years later.

“Yesterday we had a kid like, ‘Oh, I will work so hard,’ and Carrie was like, ‘I didn’t realize they would do this,’” he said.

“Carrie’s doing great,” he added. “We’re having fun.”
