Jelly Roll didn’t find the success he has in country music for no reason. Beyond his big personality and giving nature, he writes songs that connect deeply with his fans. Whitsitt Chapel was full of songs that moved listeners. It seems that his next album, Beautifully Broken will continue that trend. During a recent show, he sang “Winning Streak” an unreleased song about recovery for a fan celebrating a major milestone in his sobriety.

During his recent show in Ohio, Jelly Roll spotted a fan holding a sign saying he was celebrating seven years of sobriety by attending the concert. The fan’s sign moved him to make a late addition to his setlist. Watch the moment unfold below.

“There’s a gentleman here who’s been holding a sign. I believe it says he’s from Columbus, Ohio and he’s celebrating seven years of sobriety with us tonight,” Jelly Roll said, bringing a cheer from the crowd. “Those are the kind of signs and the kind of stories that inspire me. That’s the reason I went down to Washington DC and I addressed the United States Senate about the fentanyl epidemic in the United States of America,” he added. Before announcing the next song, he made a vow to his fans. “I promise you as long as God gives me this stage, I will always speak for those who are not spoken for. I will always be a voice for the voiceless. I will always be a representative of the underdogs and the have-nots. I promise you, baby, I will never let us down.”

Then, he introduced the song. “I wasn’t going to sing this song but I seen that sign and I’m gonna dedicate this to you. It’s called ‘Winning Streak.’ It’s about a man experiencing his first day sober.”

Unfortunately, the video doesn’t show Jelly Roll performing the song. Luckily, though, he has already performed the song on national TV. He sang the moving song as part of his set on the premiere of Saturday Night Live.

The song tells the story of a man who has decided to get sober and goes to a meeting. Someone in the room tells him “No one comes in these doors on a winning streak.” The advice helps him get past the shame he felt for being addicted and reaching out for help.
