Watch Ariana Grande Trick Stevie Nicks Into Singing a Fleetwood Mac Classic Ahead of ‘SNL’ Performance

As previously reported, Stevie Nicks will be the musical guest on the October 12 episode of Saturday Night Live, which will be posted by pop superstar and actress Ariana Grande. In advance of the show, the Fleetwood Mac singer appeared in a couple of humorous promos alongside Grande and SNL cast member Bowen Yang.

One of the ads featured Nicks briefly singing her classic Fleetwood Mac ballad “Landslide.” The spot begins with Yang noting that the new episode will be Grande’s second time hosting Saturday Night Live.

When Ariana responded, she used the opportunity to quote the Nicks solo hit “Gypsy,” remarking, “Well, you know what they say, lightning strikes maybe once.” Bowen then added, “Maybe twice.”

Stevie, apparently realizing Grande and Yang were up to something, then declared, “You can’t trick me into singing.”

In response, Yang said, “Yeah, totally, Stevie.” He then coyly asked Grande, “So, Ari. How was your weekend?” Grande’s answer included some lyrics from the aforementioned “Landslide.”

“It was good,” she said. “I climbed a mountain and I turned around.” Yang then joined in on the ruse, adding, “That’s funny, ’cause I saw my reflection of the snow-covered hills.”

He then looked expectantly at Nicks, who obligingly sang, “And the landslide brought me down,” prompting excited shouts from Yang and Grande.

Another promo for the latest SNL episode featured Yang drawing attention to the fact that Grande and Nicks both have an association with witches.

After Grande announced at the beginning of the ad that she’ll be hosting SNL and Nicks will be performing, Yang commented, “Ionic witchy women are here, just in time for spooky season.”

Ariana responded, incredulously, “Spooky season? Stevie and I witch all year!” Nicks then added, “Three-sixty-five, 24-7.” The promo ended with Bowen apologizing, “My mistake.”

As for what makes Grande and Nicks “witchy women,” Ariana is starring as Glinda in the new film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, while Stevie has long been known for her passion for witches and mystical themes, from her iconic stage outfits to her songwriting. One major example is the Fleetwood Mac hit “Rhiannon,” a song about a Welsh witch.

Saturday Night Live airs live on NBC at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT. It also streams live on Peacock.
