Live Nation Faces a Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit Over Data Breach

Data breaches have been happening a lot lately. And it looks like ticketing platform Live Nation is the newest company to get caught in the drama. Live Nation is currently facing an enormous multi-million dollar lawsuit. That lawsuit has been filed over a data breach that occurred via Ticketmaster earlier in 2024.

Back in April of this year, a group of hackers called ShinyHunters exploited Ticketmaster’s security and accessed the company’s database. The hacker group allegedly stole more than 1.3 terabytes of data. That data included everything from names to phone numbers to credit card information. At this point, it is believed that 560 million customers had their financial information stolen.

A couple of months later in June, Ticketmaster/Live Nation confirmed that they were investigating the theft via a federal filing under the SEC.

Now, it looks like the company is facing a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that Live Nation exhibited “negligent behavior” ahead of the breach that made it possible for their databases to be easily hacked. The lawsuit also alleges that Ticketmaster did not properly protect customer data by adhering to adequate security protocols. Ticketmaster also did not notify users that their data had been compromised quickly.

The lawsuit noted that the hack was preventable. It notes that Ticketmaster’s inadequate protection protocols resulted in the breach. It also alleges that Ticketmaster should have deleted much of the data that was stolen before the breach occurred. The suit is seeking damages upwards of $5 million.

Is My Information At Risk?

In the event of any data breach from any online platform, users could be at risk for identity theft or fraud. At this point, if your data was stolen during the Ticketmaster data breech, the best you can do is freeze your credit accounts with the three major credit bureaus and switch up your debit card pin number.

This isn’t the first time that Live Nation found itself in hot water. The Department of Justice also filed an antitrust lawsuit against the ticketing brand. That suit alleges that Live Nation has taken “abusive” measures to beat down competition in the event ticketing industry.

According to Ticketmaster’s website, those whose information has been compromised will receive a year’s worth of access to a credit monitoring platform to ensure their information is safe.
