While spending several decades carving out a spot in country music, Blake Shelton appeared to be enjoying a simpler life. Although still releasing music, after leaving The Voice, the hitmaker hinted at taking a step back from the spotlight to spend time with his family and wife Gwen Stefani. Over the last few weeks, the country star stopped by College GameDay to offer his college football picks. And recently, Shelton decided to travel back to his alma mater. But not wanting to show up empty-handed, he brought more than a few gifts with him.

Teaming up with the Music Will organization, Shelton stopped by Ada High School in Ada, Oklahoma for a special visit. While taking a trip down memory lane, the singer wanted to help influence the next generation of singers by bringing the school thousands of dollars of musical equipment that included drums, amplifiers, and more. And that was just the start as he even donated one of his signature guitars.

Sharing a video of his visit on Instagram, Shelton wrote, “Honored to have teamed up with @musicwillorg and go back to my hometown and high school to surprise the kids with some brand new instruments and equipment. Music is so important and it’s really special getting to be part of this and help give the kids this opportunity. Thank you MusicWill!!! Go Ada!!!”

Discussing his younger years and how he got started in music, Shelton praised his uncle for helping teach him. “Once I got a driver’s license, I would drive to their house almost every day and sit around for an hour with his acoustic guitar. And he taught me just the little bit that he knew.”

With Shelton helping encourage students to explore music, he explained how music can help bring people together. “Now these kids are gonna have the opportunity to do that right here in school. Work with each other and, you know, create a band situation.”

Always willing to give back, Shelton gained praise from fans with the video climbing over 100,000 views. “Giving back to your hometown and supporting the kids with music is such a meaningful thing to do. They’re gonna love those new instruments! Big shoutout to you for making a difference! Go Ada!”
