South Georgia Technical College Criminal Justice Instructor Teresa McCook wanted to make her classes come alive for students this summer so she invited Mrs. Elena Carn’e Lorenz of T31 to speak to the members of her Ethics and Cultural Diversity class.

Mrs. Elena Carn’e Lorenz, is the owner of T31 in Americus, GA.  She is from Venezuelan and has overcome many trials and tribulations on the way to becoming a successful Venezuelan-American business woman.  She was invited to share her story and also talk about cultural diversity with the SGTC Criminal Justice students.

“The cultural diversity part of the class focuses on aiding criminal justice students to better understand and communicate with members of other cultures with whom they may come in contact with in the line of duty,” explained McCook.

Mrs. Lorenz was able to speak on differences from her home country and her home now.  She spoke about the language differences, customs, traditions, religion and other aspects of her culture. She also spoke of raising her family to know about their heritage and how they incorporate it into their everyday lives while also embracing the American traditions as well.

Mrs. Lorenz became an American Citizen several years ago and expressed her appreciation and love for the USA.  She wants to encourage every one she meets to be resourceful and keep persevering to be the best they can be.

She reminded the students that “you never know who is watching” and that is a vital component of the SGTC Ethics class as well.

T31 Design House is a Full-Service Design Development, Sewing Contractor and Manufacturer. They are striving to make a difference one stitch at a time.  T31 embodies the essence of their mission.  “T” signifies Tepuy, akin to “Tepui” – a “House of God.”  The number 31 draws from Proverbs 31, portraying a woman of noble character – embodying the virtues of strength, diligence, faith, and integrity.

They are striving to Empower Dreams while Stitching Futures.  As a design and sewing house, they weave threads of possibility, crafting not just garments but opportunities.  They light the path to realizing ambitions and nurturing local talent through job creation and training.
