Andrew Cook, chair of the Chamber of Commerce, gave the address. “Since 2018, the relationship and partnership formed between Pineland and those in Sumter County, like Sumter County Board of Commissioners, City of Americus, Sumter EMC, and OneSumter, and many more, these have been outstanding and produced wonderful results such as the build out of high-speed fiber network that expands the business footprint of Americus, and now into residential neighborhoods.”

David Baldwin, chairman of the Sumter County Board of Commissioners, shared a few words. “I appreciate the opportunity to be here on behalf of the Board of Commissioners. Normally at something like this you’re welcoming someone to the community, and Pineland’s been here. I’ve been doing business with them myself for quite a while.” Baldwin mentioned “the importance of the public private partnership that we’ve endeavored to go out to put six, over 600 miles of fiber throughout the County” describing it as “incredible.” He talked about the importance of cooperation. “It goes to show that when government can’t do it by itself, sometimes business can’t do it by itself, but when we work together and we work toward sometimes like this, it will make everybody a better, a whole lot better community, and be good for Pineland and be good for everyone.”

City Council member Nelson Brown also shared a few words. “In Americus and Sumter County, our citizens are anticipating, they are waiting, and want to get activated.”
Qaijuan Willis, director of Americus Mainstreet, Downtown Development Authority, and the interim tourism director, also addressed those gathered. “We are grateful and excited to have Pineland in our community.” He noted the results. “We now have free wi-fi downtown thanks to OneSumter’s leadership and the work of Pineland.”

After the ceremony, CEO of Pineland, Dustin Durden, commented on what it was like to see the ribbon cutting for their new office. “It was great. Great turnout from our team and community.” He talked about their progress. “Our goal is to complete it by December of 2025, we’re about a fourth of the way done now, we’ll be a little over halfway done by the end of this year and then completely done by the end of 2025, so we’re currently working in the Northeast section, upper river section, and building down into the Desoto section, which hopefully, by Thanksgiving, that area will be available for service.”

Durden told how areas had already begun to come online. “Just in the last week, we just released the Andersonville section, the Northeast section, and we’ve had great response so far in that area, we’d love to have more, but so far the response has been really good.”
