As the arctic cold front tightens its grip on New England, residents brace themselves for another round of wintry weather. A storm is set to exit the mid-Atlantic coast on Monday night, tracking off the New England coast during the day on Tuesday, promising a slippery commute for many.

While some pockets of light snow are expected overnight on Monday, with minimal accumulation of a coating to an inch by Tuesday morning, the real challenge lies in the potential for slippery spots and snow-covered roads. Untreated surfaces, in particular, may become hazardous, urging commuters to exercise caution during their morning travels.

The day unfolds with off-and-on periods of snow, gradually accumulating over the course of Tuesday. The critical period for accumulation is anticipated to be from noon to 2 p.m. Mixing may occur, especially along the coast to Cape Cod, and briefly inland. The snow is expected to taper off during the early evening from west to east.

Inland areas can expect a snowfall accumulation of 2-4 inches, while the immediate coast and Cape Cod may see 1-3 inches. Boston is forecasted to receive around or just over an inch. Although the snowfall is spread over several hours, making it a manageable situation for cleanup, commuters should remain vigilant, especially during the morning and evening commutes.

*The MBTA Commuter Rail has alerted passengers to potential service disruptions due to weather conditions, advising caution when traveling. With temperatures plummeting into the teens and 20s on Tuesday night and lingering in the 20s to low 30s on Wednesday, untreated surfaces are likely to freeze solid, adding an extra layer of complexity to the commute.

Following the wintry episode, New England can anticipate quiet but cold days through the remainder of the week. However, another disturbance is looming on the horizon, expected to arrive on Friday. Initial projections suggest a track southeast of the region, hinting at a potential all-snow scenario. Confidence is moderate to high for another plowable event, so residents are advised to stay tuned for updates throughout the week.

In the face of unpredictable weather, New Englanders exhibit resilience, adapting to the challenges that winter brings. As snow and sleet dance across the landscape, the region prepares for yet another test of its winter mettle.
