In a recent turn of events, Las Vegas police have apprehended Nephi Oliva, a former weapons instructor, on charges related to fraudulent behavior in teaching concealed carry weapons (CCW) classes. Oliva, also known as Nephi Khaliki, was taken into custody for allegedly continuing to teach CCW courses even after his license had been revoked in August 2023.

According to authorities, Oliva's arrest stems from his purported actions of posing as a licensed CCW instructor despite lacking the necessary credentials. It's alleged that he provided fraudulent documentation, bearing the signature of an active instructor, to authenticate his teaching activities.

The charges against Oliva include forgery, fraud, and deceit in the course of his occupation, along with the unauthorized use of personal identifying information.

This recent development adds to Oliva's controversial history, as he had previously garnered attention for delivering a contentious presentation on firearm safety at a Las Vegas conservative CCW event back in April 2022. The presentation, titled "Firearm Safety for White People" and "Firearm Safety for Black People," contained slides that drew criticism for their racially charged content.

The event, held in a public library and attended by notable Republican figures such as former Mayor of North Las Vegas John Lee and Assemblyman Tom Roberts, sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters.

In light of these events, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is urging anyone with information regarding Oliva's activities or those who attended CCW classes taught by him after August 7, 2023, to come forward. Individuals can reach out to the LVMPD CCW Detail at 702-385-5555 or via email at ccwdetail@lvmpd.com.

Oliva's arrest serves as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding integrity and adherence to regulations within professional domains, particularly in fields as critical as firearm instruction. As the legal proceedings unfold, this incident prompts reflection on the broader implications of accountability and responsibility in the realm of firearm safety education.
