Tragic Vintage Car Event in Portland: Violent Assault Leaves Victim in Coma

    2024-03-19

In what was supposed to be a celebration of classic cars, a recent meetup in Portland's Pearl District took a dark turn, leaving one individual in a coma and prompting a city-wide search for suspects.

On the evening of February 24th, enthusiasts gathered in the 900 block of Northwest 13th Avenue for what should have been a joyous occasion centered around vintage automobiles. However, tensions escalated when a dispute arose concerning a particular vintage vehicle, sparking a physical altercation that ended in a violent assault.

According to Portland Police, the victim, who remains unidentified, suffered severe injuries that resulted in a coma lasting over a week. While he has since emerged from the coma, he remains hospitalized, battling the aftermath of the brutal encounter.

The authorities are currently on the lookout for up to three suspects believed to be involved in the assault. Descriptions provided suggest a potential connection to a vintage Chevy, described as being grey, blue, or green in color. Additionally, a large white truck adorned with bright blue neon lights may be linked to either the suspects or witnesses of the altercation.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement urges anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses information relevant to the case to come forward. Detective Matthew Brown is spearheading the investigation and can be reached via email at Matthew.Brown@police.portlandoregon.gov. Individuals providing information should reference case number 24-46215.

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of how quickly events can escalate, even in what should have been a lighthearted gathering of automotive enthusiasts. Our thoughts are with the victim as he continues his journey to recovery, and we hope for a swift resolution to bring those responsible to justice.
