Kyra Anderson, Drake Hinson voted the Ames Tribune's female and male Athletes of the Week

Ames softball player Kyra Anderson and Nevada baseball player Drake Hinson were voted the Ames Tribune's female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of July 8-14.

Anderson dominated the female Athlete of the Week voting with 49% of the vote. Gilbert softball player Emma Latterell came in second with 23%.

Anderson homered in her final at-bat at the Ames High Softball Field for the Ames softball team during the Little Cyclones' 4-2 loss to Gilbert on July 8.

Anderson also had a big game during Ames' 18-4 5A Region 1 semifinal rout of Sioux City North on July 13. She went 4-for-5 with four doubles and three RBIs.

Hinson won a tight race with Ames baseball player Carter Geffre for male Athlete of the Week. Hinson received 46% of the vote and Geffre came in with 42%.

Hinson threw a strong game in defeat for the Nevada baseball team during its 2-0 3A Substate 6 quarterfinal loss to Cedar Rapids Xavier on July 12 at Cedar Rapids.

Hinson held the Saints to two runs on five hits in seven innings. He ended up with two strikeouts and three walks.
