Mullets is serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Ames after the highly anticipated restaurant's soft opening on Wednesday.

The 1980s-themed eatery and bar will celebrate its grand opening on Friday.

Open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Mullets is located at 4518 Mortensen Road, at the site of the former West Towne Pub.

“At Mullet’s we’re known for our breakfast, but we do really amazing lunch and dinner as well,” Mullets owner John Royer said in a past interview . “It’s the place you will go for an amazing, fun time.”

“People are dancing in their seats and on their feet,” he said. “It’s more of an experience than just a meal.”

An homage to the long history of Ames

The restaurant plays ‘80s and ‘90s music and has a game room in the back. The walls are covered with throwback photos and memorabilia. A large patio overlooks a pond, where a multitude of waterfowl are active.

A mural on the west wall of the dining room pays a colorful homage to Mullets, Ames, and Iowa State University. It depicts iconic parts of Ames' history, such as the Campanile and the Dinkey, a little train that used to run between campus and downtown.

    Local owners excited to open

The Mullets restaurant in Ames is a "dream come true" for local owners Jordan and Miranda Cook , of Nevada.

“We’re going to keep things the same for breakfast and brunch, and it’s going to be the same as Mullets in Des Moines,” Jordan Cook said in June. “We’re really excited about that, and we’re hoping that people love and enjoy the dinner menu as much as they love the breakfast and lunch.”

A majority of breakfast items are on the menu all day for people who love breakfast at dinnertime.
