Community sign for Madison Heights installed
A community sign recently was installed in Madison Heights as part of the Board of Supervisors’ placemaking efforts. The Amherst County Route 29 Business Beautification Committee collaborated on the sign’s design. The sign features “Madison Heights” in the county font type on a black background with a blue wave in honor of the James River.
Monroe man dies from injuries in two-vehicle wreck in Amherst County
Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred at 7:44 p.m. June 15 at the intersection of Virginia 130 and Mt. Tabor Drive in Amherst County. A 2003 Lincoln Navigator was heading westbound on Elon Road (Virginia 130) when it was unable to avoid striking a 2022 Dodge Challenger that had entered the intersection from Mt. Tabor Drive, according to a news release from Virginia State Police. Both vehicles then overturned and ended up in a ditch off Elon Road, police said.

The meningitis vaccine is the only vaccination that is required for students entering their senior year of high school. To make meeting this requirement easier, the Central Virginia Health District will be offering this vaccine for students at each of the county health departments. Vaccinations are provided by appointment at the dates, times and locations listed below. Students must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or an adult acting on behalf of the parent if they are not 18 years of age.
