PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A 55-year-old Amity man died in a car crash early Monday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree, officials said.

According to the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was identified as Richard Howard. The sheriff’s office responded just after 2 a.m. on July 15 on reports of a crash in the 6800 block of Southeast Eola Hills Road in rural Amity. They found Howard dead at the scene and his silver 2007 Hyundai SUV.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation revealed “alcohol impairment, speed, and no seat belt were all determined to be factors in the crash.”
