Kidnapped girl escapes in Dallas and goes to fire station

    2024-06-18

Doyle Tipton, 53, has been taken into custody and is facing a charge of aggravated kidnapping, as Dallas police reported.

A girl who was kidnapped managed to escape her captor. The victim was rescued after firefighters noticed her standing close to a light pole without wearing any shoes. The light pole was close to a fire station located in Dallas, as authorities have revealed.

Doyle Tipton, 53, has been taken into custody. Tipton has been charged with aggravated kidnapping.

It's not clear if the man has an attorney or not.

Detectives believe that the girl ran away from her home on Thursday night. At about 4:30 a.m., a man driving a red minivan asked her if she needed a ride home, as the police stated.

The girl accepted and got in the car, but instead of taking her back home, the man drove her into Dallas, and a "brief struggle" resulted.

The minivan then stopped in southeast Dallas, close to Interstate 20 and South Hampton Road, when the man "removed the child from the vehicle," based on official reports.

The girl ran away after that and was spotted by firefighters at Dallas Fire Station #40.

They saw the girl "standing outside the station next to a light pole with no shoes," as Jason Evans, the Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman, explained in an email.

"They brought the young girl inside, performed a basic assessment, and notified the police department," Evans wrote.

The girl gave officers information that helped them locate the man and identify Tipton as a suspect.
