Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg.... or is it Twitter versus Threads? This week it seems to have been the latter. Hopefully, nobody's throwing punches which will make Maye Musk and us all happy.

Over the years, Facebook has made various attempts to compete with Twitter, including replicating distinctive Twitter features like hashtags and trending topics. However, the parent firm of Facebook is now likely battling Twitter in the most significant way yet.

On Wednesday, Meta formally unveiled Threads, a fresh application that aims to provide a venue for real-time online chats, a feature that has long been Twitter's main selling point.

In less than 24 hours of the app's introduction, 30 million people had signed up, according to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, on his verified Threads account.

From the design to the feature list, the app seems to resemble Twitter in many ways. The listing, which first emerged as a teaser earlier this week, fosters its potential to gain popularity and establish connections with like-minded individuals.

Given Meta's vast assets and its enormous viewership, the new app could represent the biggest danger to Twitter of all its competitors, adding to the growing roster of Twitter rivals (CNN).

It also occurs at a time of increased unrest at Twitter, which over the weekend experienced an outage and then announced that it had temporarily set limits on how many tweets its users could view while using the service. Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, stated that these limitations were put in place "to address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation."

“It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it. Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it,” Zuckerberg wrote on Threads. “Hopefully we will."
