Nov. 4, 2023, North Carolina - Once again, North Carolinians are getting ready to ring back the clocks and say goodbye to Daylight Savings Time. This year's DST will expire on Sunday, November 5, at 2:00 a.m., when the clocks "fall back" by one hour.

This annual event has become a part of life in many parts of the United States, including North Carolina, as the long summer days go shorter and the evenings get darker. Daylight Savings Time is still observed, albeit there is ongoing discussion over it and differing opinions among the populace.

Daylight Savings Time was first introduced during World War I as a means of conserving energy. Proponents contend that it increases the amount of daylight in the evening, which may lower energy use and increase time spent outside. Opponents, however, contend that the sudden shift in time disturbs sleep cycles, resulting in health problems and lowering productivity.

Many people are excited to get an extra hour of sleep. Some parents, however, claim that it takes some getting accustomed to and that kids may find it difficult to adjust to the darker mornings. Homes have to adjust all of their clocks, which might be a little more difficult.

Organizations and businesses must also adjust to the time shift. Many have policies in place to guarantee that timetables and activities go without hiccups. Some contend that these changes can still be disruptive and have an impact on workers' productivity and well-being.

For the foreseeable future, Daylight Savings Time will probably be observed in North Carolina and throughout the United States, notwithstanding the current controversy. Residents will put their clocks back and prepare for the upcoming winter, acclimating to the changing daylight hours and the advantages and disadvantages that accompany it. The clocks will "spring forward" again in March.
