According to BBC, in Kampala, the capital, Safina Namukwaya gave birth via cesarean to a boy and a girl. One of the oldest women to give birth, Ms. Namukwaya, called it a "miracle" to the local media.

In addition to congratulating her, the hospital stated that it is a testament to the "human spirit's strength and resilience" rather than just a "medical success." "We've achieved the extraordinary - delivering twins to Africa's oldest mother aged 70!" On its Facebook page, the Women's Hospital International and Fertility Centre (WHI&FC) shared a post.

Just after midday on Wednesday, it stated that she had given birth, and it concluded, "Mother and babies are all well." According to Ms. Namukwaya, who spoke with Uganda's Daily Monitor, her partner left her when he found out she was expecting twins, making the pregnancy challenging.

"Men don't like to be told that you are carrying more than one child. Ever since I was admitted here, my man has never showed up," she said.

In the last three years, Ms. Namukwaya has made two deliveries. 2020 saw her give birth to a daughter. She claimed that after being made fun of for not having children, she had desired to become a parent.

"I looked after people's children and saw them grow up and leave me alone. I wondered who would take care of me when I grow old," Namukwaya said.

It's unclear if she utilized an egg from a donor or one that she had frozen and kept as a child. Menopause often strikes women between the ages of 45 and 55. Around this time, fertility declines, but thanks to medical advancements, they can now become mothers.

IVF, or in vitro fertilization, is one method among many. An egg is taken out of the ovaries of the woman and fertilized in a lab with sperm during the procedure. After fertilization, the resultant embryo is placed inside a woman's womb to continue growing and developing.
