The collision was recorded close to Knightdale, an east Raleigh suburb, at around 12:30 p.m. According to news sources and Trooper Martin Segovia, men were struck when they were in the grass beside the freeway.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody. In a phone interview with McClatchy News, Segovia revealed that he is being charged with five traffic-related charges, which include two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle and one case of exceeding a safe speed.
