Missing Caldwell Co. Man Found Dead with Help from Multiple NC Counties

According to CBS 17, officials report that a man from Caldwell County who had gone missing was found dead on Tuesday.

On April 16, 44-year-old Michael Hallford Jr. was discovered dead, according to Caldwell County officials. His body was found submerged in Wilson Creek, some distance downstream from the location of his car.

There are no indications of foul play, but an autopsy will be performed by the examiner's office at a later time.

On April 12, when his car was found in a parking lot on Brown Mountain Beach Road in the county's western region, Hallford was reported missing. Hallford was last seen by family members on April 10 at 2:00 p.m.

Caldwell Emergency Management was sent to carry out the search after Collettsville Fire Rescue. Numerous regional agencies were summoned to assist in the ground and water search from Friday through Tuesday.

Sheriff Alan Jones of Caldwell County said, “I want to thank all of the agencies and departments that helped with this search. A search of this scope would have been impossible without the cooperation and teamwork of all of the agencies involved.”

Assistance was provided by crews from Catawba, Lincoln, Watauga, and Avery counties, as well as agencies throughout Caldwell County.
