WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — One person is dead following a helicopter crash just south of Andale. It happened just after 8 a.m. in the 5700 block of N. 255th St. West.

Emergency crews found the aircraft near a pond. The aircraft was on fire, and one person died.

“It appears to be a helicopter of some type. It is a smaller helicopter. The FAA guy is believing it is a helicopter,” Deputy Fire Chief Ray Hensley, Sedgwick County Fire District No. 1, said. “It appeared to have engine issues when it came down.”

Crews are searching a soybean field for aircraft parts.

“Anything that came off the aircraft, we are searching for that right now,” Hensley said.

Authorities are notifying the victim’s family before releasing the name to the public. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.
