The Laundry Love ministry at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will return to the community on Thursday, June 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Soap Opera Laundromat in Andalusia.

Laundry Love will be held on the third Thursday of each month. According to St. Mary’s Rector Eric Mancil, the church was involved in the ministry prior to the pandemic.

“This ministry is one more way our parish is working to reach out to our community to offer the love of God in Christ with those who need a helping hand. When the pandemic hit, everything had to stop and we could not do anything in person. We have not done Laundry Love since the pandemic, but it was a ministry some of our members were involved in every month. With interest from others in bringing it back, I thought this would be a good time to do that,” Mancil said.

Mancil added that there would be a maximum of two loads per family. The last loads must be started by 6 p.m.

“Not everyone has access to a washer and dryer. We felt this would be a good way to reach out to the community and show God’s love by providing a beneficial service to those who need it. We will provide anyone who would like to have their laundry done with quarters, laundry detergent, and dryer sheets. Right now, we will set a limit of two loads per family in order for us to gauge how much we will need to collect in funds. While we will not be doing their laundry, we will help them get started,” he said.

St. Mary’s partnered with Soap Opera Laundromat for the ministry before the pandemic.

“We felt like it would be natural to go back there since it is so close to the church. The owner was very receptive and excited about the return of Laundry Love. When we told her about bringing it back, she said some customers had asked her about it. We are excited and feel God has called us to give back to the community through this ministry,” Mancil said.

Coin donation boxes may be picked up at the church. Church members will also collect quarters.

“Simply take the box home, fill it up, and drop it in the offering plate at church. We will deposit the money and return the box to you, so you can fill it up again. All of the funds we receive will go toward our Laundry Love ministry,” he said.

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is located at 1307 East Three Notch Street in Andalusia. Soap Opera Laundromat is located at 1528 East Three Notch Street.
