LBW announces Barbara Lucas McClain scholarship

LBW Community College recently announced the establishment of the Barbara Lucas McClain Endowed Scholarship on Monday this week.

College officials said the scholarship would serve as a memory of Barbara McClain, who was a devoted businesswoman, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

A memorandum of agreement was signed on July 1, 2024, endowing the Barbara Lucas McClain Scholarship to provide financial assistance to deserving students pursuing higher education at LBW Community College.

Barbara McClain started McClain Contracting, which she co-owned with her son, Kevin. At the time of her death in 2022, she and her husband, Bill, had been married for 57 years.

“This scholarship is to leave a memory for her,” Bill McClain said.

The nature trail on LBW’s Andalusia campus was named the Barbara L. McClain Community Trail in February.
