Ironman race comes to Maine
AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - The big race is coming to Augusta. Ironman Maine 70.3 2024 is this Sunday and for those involved it’s more than just a race, it’s a way of life. “It’s an event, it’s a culture, in the endurance community. We have people that go to various events multiple times a year all over the world. There’s folks coming here to qualify for the World Championships in 2025,” commented race director Ryan Jarrell.

For the first time, there will be two drive-in movie nights at Spud Speedway. Tonight and Saturday, folks will be able to watch movies on a 20-foot wide by 12-foot-tall LED screen at the track. Augusta officials warn of potential traffic delays Sunday during Ironman race
Drivers in the Augusta area are advised to allow extra time to get to their destinations Sunday as more than 2,300 athletes compete in the Ironman 70.3 triathlon. The competition features a 1.2-mile swim in the Kennebec River, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run. It’s half the distance of a full Ironman triathlon.
