Distinctly Native American artwork, fashion, and films converge again for the annual Santa Fe Indian Market, with at least 1,000 booths and somewhere around 100,000 visitors. Native America Calling is live from Santa Fe, hearing from Southwestern Association for Indian Arts representatives, 2023 Best In Show winner Jennifer Tafoya, curators from the Native Cinema Showcase, and others to get a preview of the largest juried Native art market in the world.
The Week Ahead in Beer: Dr. Ink Me sets an appointment for another round
We promise, the proverbial dam is about to break on some stories that we have been working on for a while now, so stay patient and this site will not be quite so barren in the very near future. Anyway, we’re kicking off the weekly roundup of all things local beer with the return of Dr. Ink Me, the annual collaboration between Boxing Bear and Gallo Negro Tattoo. This year’s version of this special IPA has been dubbed Pineapple Pearalysis, so you can guess which two fruits were added to the recipe. It will be available in cans and on draft starting at Saturday’s Ignite 4.0 event, held at 2505 Craftwerks Studio, which is conveniently located at 2505 Quincy NE. There will be flash tattoos, a hair show, and a slew of artisan vendors and food trucks. The party runs from 6 to 10 p.m.

Creative Media Technology Building Open To Students!
Doña Ana Community College (DACC)’s new Creative Media Technology (CMT) building is now open to students for fall classes. The building, at 2400 Film Street, is located on the Arrowhead Park campus at New Mexico State University (NMSU), just south of the Burrell College of Medicine. The building is currently open to students enrolled in the CMT program, with a ribbon-cutting event scheduled for October 25th. Tours of the CMT facility for the media and the public will be held on that date.

Safe Outdoor Spaces Program to Expand
Roughly four months after the launch of the City of Santa Fe’s Safe Outdoor Spaces pilot program, city officials are looking to expand services. The City Council and Mayor Alan Webber approved a plan in March 2023 to purchase 25 pallet homes it intended to utilize for SOS sites with the help of up to $1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act. City officials unanimously approved contracts to establish and operate the first site in December 2023. Since April, Christ Lutheran Church has hosted 10 pallet shelters—housing 11 individuals and five pets—that include electricity, heating and cooling which The Life Link helps operate and connects people to additional services. Those agreements totaled $828,368.
76-Year-Old Felon Charged with Illegal Possession of Firearms and Explosives in Las Cruces
Frederick Urban, a 76-year-old man from Chaparral, has been charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives after a tip-off led to the discovery of a vast arsenal at his Las Cruces residence. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Urban, who has a prior felony conviction, was presented in front of a federal judge on Monday and is currently detained pending a detention hearing date, which has yet to be scheduled.
