Severe Weather Risk Across Parts of New York & New England, Scattered Storms Possible for NYC Area

Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect for Central & Upstate New York Until 9pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. Severe weather has begun to trek across parts of the Northeast, mainly Central & Upstate New York at the time of this article. These storms have a history of damaging winds near 70mph and ping-pong ball sized hail. We've also seen some tornado warnings out of this, mainly just north of Elmira, just north of Syracuse, and into Watertown, NY.

For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9pm in parts of Upstate NY. We expect these storms to continue their eastward movement towards Albany, possibly surviving the trip into Vermont and Massachusetts. This line of severe weather will continue to include the risk of large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and isolated tornadoes.

Meanwhile further south into the NYC Metro Area, we are expecting late evening action to be more of the scattered variety compared to what we are seeing now. Look for isolated/scattered severe storms to pop up later this evening in a broken line across northeast New Jersey, southeast Pennsylvania, and possibly into NYC & Long Island.

This storms will also be capable of damaging winds, frequent lightning, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Please stay tuned to your local agencies for the latest watches & warnings.
