Northeast Severe Weather Likely, Damaging Winds & Large Hail Possible in New York City & Long Island

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in Effect for Parts of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New England till 8:00pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. We are closely moinitoring an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms in interior parts of Pennsylvania and New York as severe weather is expected to develop from & ahead of it.

Afternoon sunshine, oppressive temperatures, and high humidity is fueling this area, and will help enhace it as the area moves to the east. Damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and isolated tornadoes are expected this afternoon and evening through much of the Northeast and parts of New England.

For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8pm ET in eastern Pennsylvania, southeast New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, lower Vermont, and New Hampshire. This also includes New York City and Long Island. As stated in our earlier artice today, these storms may survive the trip all the way to the coast without the marine layer weakening them.

Stay tuned for the latest watches and warnings. Seek immediate shelter for those in the path of these storms. Expect frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes and downed trees.
