Good afternoon everyone. Hot and oppressive weather has returned to the Northeast with a vengeance today, as temperatures are expcted to peak in the mid 90's before returning to near 90 Friday through Sunday. Mid 90's combined with impressive dewpoint temperatures, will help push heat indexes near 100 degrees today. Please use caution if you are elderly or have pulmonary issues.

National Weather Service - Heat Advisory - NYC Metro Area

Our dome of heat is impacting many areas, including the Southeast, South, and Midwest. On the edge of this heat dome, we'll see thunderstorms flare up again along the boundary line. This time, the Ohio River Valley will get into the action as strong to severe weather is expected this evening and tonight.

In the Chicago area, we could see some heavy storms lurking around in the afternoon and evening before that energy transfers to the east/southeast. The best chance to see some severe weather will be in parts of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and into Kentucky.

Look for the possibility to see severe thunderstorm watches posted in these areas this evening and/or tonight. At minimum, even if there are no watches posted, we will most likely see infividual warnings pop up with isolated severe cells. These storms may contain damaging wind, large hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. While the tornado risk is low, we can't rule out an isolated tornado.

National Weather Service - Hazardous Weather Outlook - Dayton, OH

Here is your local NYC Metro Area forecast -

It'll be a tough go today with sunshine, high humidity, and highs in the mid 90's. Overnight, we only go down to the 75-80 range for a very warm night. Extra clouds will help keep us in the near 90 range tomorrow, and we will see some scattered PM heavy showers & storms.

Highs will be near 90 again on Saturday with more clouds than sun. We'll also have a decent chance at some more heavy showers & storms; then we repeat on Sunday with 85-90 degree temps depending on how much cloud-cover we have.
