Good morning everyone. Our eyes turn to the tropics in regards to a tropical wave we mentioned several days ago. Now that it is nearing the Southeast via the Greater Antilles, our concerns are growing for rapid tropical development.

As of now, it doesn't have much room to develop into something catastrophic hurricane-wise, but we could see this wave intesify into a tropical depression and eventually a tropical storm.

Our biggest concern at this moment will be flooding rains in south, central, and northern Florida due to the slow moving nature of this system. Plus, with any landfalling tropical system, we will have to watch out for widespread brief tornado activity & severe weather.

As of now, the final path of this system is not written in stone and we have a few scenarios we are looking at. Obviously an inland route through central Florida and into interior parts of the Southeast will keep this from becoming a tropical storm. However, a jog into Gulf or an exit off of the north Florida Atlantic coast, will give some life to the system where tropical storm development is possible.

An exit off of the Atlantic coast would be the most concerning as it'll give our system more room and time to develop. This is where we would be watching the North & South Carolina coast closely as we could have a strong tropical storm or minimal hurricane on our hands.

The timeline in terms of Florida for heavy tropical showers & storms and flooding conditions, looks to be tomorrow through Sunday from south to north. Please stay tuned for the latest updates.

Here is your local NYC Metro Forecast -

Look for a hot & muggy day today with highs near 90 and the chance of a few PM storms. We do have a cluster of thunderstorms heading well north of NYC this morning, but they should stay out of the way. Our action will come from the west this afternoon if they survive the trip.

We'll have another 90 degree day tomorrow with hot and muggy conditions. We'll also have a better chance of PM storms, then more numerous showers and storms on Sunday with 85-90 degree temps.

Sun returns on Monday with hot conditions and low 90's. From Tuesday through Thursday, tropical activity in the Southeast could enhance an approaching front and gives us numerous showers & storms with possible flooding conditions.
