Good morning everyone. The Northeast is about to get in on the action in terms of Tropical Storm Debby's remnants, especially interior sections when it comes to flooding rain. We'll also watch out for the severe weather component which is likely to rake the coast as Debby whips her tail around the Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic, then race north/northeast. Expect some really beautiful weather behind Debby in the Northeast, with sunshine, low humidity, and comfortably warm temps.
Along the Northeast corridor shoreline, we have gale watches and warnings as strong southeast winds pump across coastal areas ahead of Debby's remnants. Look for rough surf conditions, minor coastal flooding during high tide cycles, and 10-13ft seas possible. We could also see winds gusting in excess of 39mph in spots, especially in offshore areas such as the Hudson Canyon and Cox's Ledge.
For the Southeast, Debby will leave behind hot & muggy conditions is it draws up that Caribbean air behind it and no cold front relief. We'll watch that severe weather component very closely today along the South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware coast. The heaviest rain concentrates along the Appalachians and foothills, but the real nasty stuff will be along the coast.
For this reason, the National Weather service has issued a Tornado Watch in parts of eastern North Carolina and Virginia until 1pm ET today. That only gives us about an hour left, but it could be extended and moved as a line or several lines of nasty storms race ENE. Look for locally damaging winds, torrential rain, hail, and the possibility for brief tornadoes.
Stay tuned for the latest watches and warnings. Here is your local NYC Metro Forecast -
Look for cloudy skies today, breezy conditions, and muggy/cool temps. We'll have on and off showers and rumbles, with highs only in the low 70's. We warm up a bit tomorrow in the near 80 range and muggy, but the rain component will be heavier. Look for heavier showers and rumbles, some of which could reach severe limits.
Things clear out Saturday afternoon with sunshine and mid 80's, then we go sunny and comfortable on Sunday with low 80's.
Your workweek starts off pleasantly warm with low to mid 80's and relatively low humidity for this time of year.
