Good morning everyone. Quiet weather is slowly pulling away from the Northeast as the area sits sandwiched between departing high pressure, subtropical low pressure to our southeast, a strong cold front approaching, and stubborn tropical moisture along the Gulf Coast.

With that cold front bumping into tropical moisture and very cool/dry air behind it, the stage is set for the possibility of some severe weather today and tomorrow. Today's risk of severe weather is further back towards the Ohio River Valley, but could also extend into western New York and Pennsylvania. As of now, we're watching a batch of heavy showers and storms entering Ohio and along the Lake Eerie shorelines.

These storms will eventually intensify as the day wears on, plus grow outward south and west into a broken line stretching from Kentucky, into West Virginia, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and western New York. The primary threat with these storms will be damaging winds, but we could also see large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of an isolated tornado. We also cannot rule out waterspouts possible across lake Eerie & Ontario.

Tomorrow's severe weather risk shifts to east, where that line will likely re-fire into a more narrow band stretching from New York, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and possibly down into the Mid-Atlantic. These thunderstorms will also have the potential for damaging winds and hail. Behind it, much cooler and breezy conditions rule for a day as temps plunge into the 60's and low 70's across the Northeast. However, 80's and full sunshine return for a beautifully warm workweek next week.

We also remain vigilant along the Gulf Coast as tropical moisture continues its hold on areas of Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas. Slow moving heavy rain and tropical rumbles extend the flooding risk for another couple of days until it temporarily clears out. While we won't see any widespread severe weather, isolated cells may produce damaging winds, frequent lightning, and the risk of waterspouts along near-shore areas.

Here is your local NYC Metro forecast -

Clouds have rolled in and are here to stay through tomorrow evening. This is not from the cold front to our west, but more from low pressure off of the coast. Look for low clouds, a few sprinkles, and highs in the mid to upper 70's.

We'll have more clouds tomorrow with mid to upper 70's under muggy conditions. A narrow line of storms moves through the area some time between 3 and 6pm, but we could see a few scattered showers ahead of that line. Some of these storms could reach severe limits, with damaging winds and hail the primary risk.

Sunshine returns Sunday under breezy conditions and highs only in the upper 60's to low 70's.

Temperatures modify on Monday with more sunshine and highs near 80, then sunshine again on Tuesday with low to mid 80's.
