Good morning everyone. We're watching a fairly strong cold front sweep through the Northeast & New England region, which will help give us a very quiet & cool workweek; plus help protect us from any tropical systems in the next 7 days. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will slowly depart Long Island and New England, giving us some late sunshine today. Cooler temps prevail tomorrow through Friday, and it'll remain on the dry side.

The Southeast is another story as our powerful storm begins its approach into Florida. It's been discussed ad nauseam as far as what to expect for the west coast of Florida, but there's an aspect that many ignore - severe thunderstorms. Areas such as Orlando, Port St. Lucie, Ft Lauderdale, and Miami, all have the potential to see a severe weather outbreak. Look for numerous strong to severe thunderstorms to impact central and south Florida tomorrow through Thursday.

Expect widespread damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, torrential rain, hail, and the risk for brief tornadoes. As with any landfalling tropical system, tornadoes are one of the biggest issues away from the main action of the storm. In some cases, these brief tornadoes can do just as much damage as the storm itself, but on a localized level.

We're also expecting coastal regions of Georgia and South Carolina to see some fringe effects of this tropical system. Look for gusty winds, rough surf, enhanced tides, and the potential for some heavy rains on Thursday. Some of these winds may require the need for gale or storm warnings if our system gets a little closer to the coast.

Here is your local NYC Metro forecast -

Showers and heavy thunderstorms have departed most of the area aside from central and eastern Long Island. Look for partial clearing to ensue, then mostly skies by mid afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 60's to low 70's.

We'll have a dry, sunny, and cool day tomorrow with highs in the upper 60's. Things cool off a little bit more on Wednesday and Thursday, with sunshine and mid 60's. Overnight, we could see mid to upper 40's, plus even some cooler temps away from NYC.

Temperatures modify on Friday with more sunshine and highs near 70. Look for more of the same during your weekend.

I can do with cooler weather, but the rest of it can stay away. I hope people in Florida just take this hurricane seriously. Too many people don’t.
