Good afternoon everyone. As touched on briefly during this morning's forecast, heavy showers and thunderstorms were expected across parts of south Florida, including the Florida Keys.

We are now watching that scenario play out as tropical energy rises north from Cuba, and across the Keys and into some of the bigger city areas. Along the central Keys, we're watching torrential rain, gusty winds, and thunder impact the island chain. We're also watching heavy showers and thunderstorms developing in areas such as Ft Lauderdale and south of Miami.

As the day wears on, we can expect this energy to continue to stream northward and regenerate across the same areas as it does. As heavy tropical showers and thunderstorms become more numerous and inundate the same locations, our flood risk will rise in poor drainage & low lying areas. We will also have to contend with locally strong winds, frequent lightning, and the risk of a few waterspouts.

This is part of the tropical energy we will be watching closely over the next 10-15 days as it meanders from one side of the Gulf to the other; as well as the northern Caribbean, and across the Atlantic to the Bahamas. While we don't have any organized tropical systems at this time, as we saw last week, these are the trouble spots we look for this time of year when it comes to late-season development.
