The DMACC Foundation broke its record for student scholarship fundraising at its annual DMACC CEO golf tournament, allowing the community college to give out more scholarship dollars than ever.

The 17th-annual tournament, held June 13 at DMACC alum Dennis Albaugh’s Talons Golf Course, hosted 120 central Iowa executives and raised $500,000 for scholarships, according to a news release.

Tara Connolly, executive director of the DMACC Foundation, said in an interview that with these funds, the foundation will award $2.4 million in scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year, breaking the previous year’s record of $2.2 million.

“We’re deeply grateful to our generous sponsors, dedicated players, and tireless volunteers who made this incredible achievement possible,”  Connolly said in the release. “Raising $500,000 for scholarships is a testament to our community’s unwavering commitment to changing lives and empowering communities through education at DMACC.”

Since the tournament was created in 2007, the event has raised more than $5.5 million for scholarships, DMACC President Rob Denson said in the release. It is the foundation’s largest scholarship fundraiser.

Students have until July 15 to apply for scholarships for the upcoming academic year, using an online form . After applying, the foundation will “match the student with every available scholarship they are able to receive,” according to the release.

“There is clear evidence that the support this scholarship event provides for students makes a difference in their ability to stay in colleges and graduate into a better job or to further their education,” Denson said in the release.
