Ankeny native Joey Oakie is now officially a member of the Cleveland Guardians organization.

Oakie, a third-round pick by the Guardians in July's Major League Baseball Draft, officially signed with the Guardians on Saturday.

The former Centennial High School star got a $2 million signing bonus from the Guardians. It's well above the $906,800 for the assigned slot value of the pick.

Oakie was taken with the 84th overall pick in the draft. The money was enough to lure away Oakie from attending Iowa to play for the Hawkeyes.

The hard-throwing right-handed pitcher, who owns a fastball in the upper 90s, has widely been considered one of the top talents in the state. During his senior season of high school, Oakie went 4-2 with a 1.26 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. He struck out 76 hitters across just 39 innings of work.
