Michigan sets program record for top-100 picks; Harbaugh breaks out in song in Chargers draft room

The Michigan football program expected to set records in this year's NFL Draft. The Wolverines are on their way.

After quarterback J.J. McCarthy was drafted 10th overall Thursday by the Vikings, Michigan had six more players selected in the top 100 on Friday, including three straight in the third round: running back Blake Corum 83rd to the Rams, wide receiver Roman Wilson 84th to the Steelers and guard Zak Zinter 85th to the Browns.

Linebacker Junior Colson was reunited with Jim Harbaugh when the Chargers drafted him 69th overall, while cornerback Mike Sainristil went 50th to the Commanders and defensive lineman Kris Jenkins went 49th to the Bengals.

"He picked me again, man. He picked me again," said Colson , a four-star recruit for Michigan in 2021.

The seven players drafted in the top 100 marks a Michigan record. Harbaugh, months into the job in LA, couldn't help but sing the Hail to the Victors in the Chargers draft room.

With three rounds remaining, the Wolverines still have a shot at the record for most players drafted in one year from the same school, set by Georgia with 15 draft picks in 2022 from the team that beat Michigan in the College Football Playoff and won the national championship.

Michigan, coming off a national championship of their own, had a record 18 players invited to the NFL combine in March, several of whom are likely to hear their names called Saturday. Receiver Cornelius Johnson, tight end AJ Barner and offensive linemen Trevor Keegan stand out on offense, edge rushers Braiden McGregor and Jaylen Harrell and linebacker Michael Barrett on defense.

At the very least, Michigan should break its own record for most players drafted in one year, which was 11 in 2021, tied for sixth most all time.
