College Football Insider Predicts Michigan Wolverines 'Fall Off' in 2024 Season

The Michigan Wolverines won the national championship in 2023. Nevertheless, one college football analyst is predicting they take a step back in the upcoming season.

"4th & Wrong CFB Podcast" host and SEC analyst Chris Marler weighed in on the 2024 season for the Wolverines on " The Hard Count with J.D. PicKell. "

"Michigan will fall off the face of the earth this year. And maybe that looks like 8-4 or 9-3, I don't know, but compared to what they've done the past two to three seasons, it's gonna be night and day."

The reason Marler predicts a fall off for the Wolverines is that many of the team's key contributors from a season ago won't be there in 2024.

Michigan loses a staggering 10 of 11 offensive starters from its national title season. Marler discussed the turnover the program faces this year.

"Like half the coaching staff's gone, Connor Stallions is gone, first round quarterback is gone, head coach is gone," Marler reasoned.

The Wolverines should still have several good players after having been one of the best teams in player development over the last three seasons. Few programs are maximizing players better than Michigan.

Despite the team's strong track record of player development, 2023 departures could make it difficult for Michigan to score points this season.

The Wolverines' three anticipated starting wide receivers combined for 433 receiving yards last season. Anticipated starting quarterback Alex Orji has attempted one pass in his college career.

Complicating the lack of returning production, Michigan loses all five starting offensive linemen from last season.

It's difficult to see a dramatic fall off after several years of good coaching, but the concerns on the offensive side are reasonable.

Michigan opens the season with Fresno State on Aug. 31.
