Michigan's sign-stealing scandal and its catalyst Connor Stalions will be one of the subjects in the next batch of Netflix's Untold documentary series, which highlights some of the juiciest subplots in the sports world through dramatic-but-true storytelling. https://twitter.com/netflix/status/1815431687901163597 https://twitter.com/DanWetzel/status/1815433146650763307 The Wolverines famously rattle off a perfect season and won the national championship. It proved to be Jim Harbaugh's final year as coach in Ann Arbor before his return to the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers. However, Harbaugh was
suspended for three games because of Michigan stealing signals from opponents to gain a competitive advantage, which the coach denied having any knowledge of. Stalions considered what he did to be "advanced scouting", which I guess is technically true on a variety of levels. Should be interesting to hear his side of the story to say the least in this Sign Stealer documentary. https://twitter.com/BruceFeldmanCFB/status/1720627290323685471 It's pretty impressive how quickly Netflix jumped on the Stalions story. To already have a documentary about a month out from release is quite the feat. Then again, apropos of nothing I was looking at Netflix's list of original films the other day, and my head was spinning trying to keep track of them all. They are a juggernaut. An indefatigable content machine. They made like Amazon and spent years plunging themselves into the red on their balance sheets. Now, it looks like it's all paying off in a big way. In the midst of news that
Apple is cutting back on its $20 billion in spending on making movies and TV shows, Netflix's profitability in the first half of 2024 alone was over $4 billion. It's too bad because Apple TV+ is killing it. For All Mankind is pound-for-pound one of the best TV/streaming series out there period. Just goes to show how formidable Netflix is, in that they ignited a rampant streaming spending spree and are still standing head and shoulders above everyone else. Their variety, volume of original content, and tripling-down on themselves has paid huge dividends. Untold has done a pretty good job to date, with the obvious favorite (at least of mine) being Johnny Football
. The revelation that Johnny Manziel watched zero film during his time with the Cleveland Browns was among the several illuminating aspects of that documentary, even if it could've dug a little deeper. Looking forward to Sign Stealer . Might be the best one yet, although the true crime aspect of the Steve McNair doc will probably draw a lot of folks in, too.
