(WWJ) — A driver and two young children are injured after a crash on I-94 Tuesday afternoon, caused by another driver who was trying to make their exit on the freeway.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. on July 30 along westbound I-94 near Belleville Road in Van Buren Township, according to Michigan State Police.

MSP officials say preliminary investigation revealed the at-fault driver crossed all three lanes of the freeway in an attempt to make their exit at Belleville Road. In the process, the driver crashed into another car, causing it to roll up the right embankment and onto the service drive.

All three people in the overturned car — an adult and two children, ages 8 and 9 years old — were seriously injured in the crash and taken to the hospital.

The at-fault driver was not injured and authorities do not believe drugs, alcohol or medication played a role in the crash.

“We continue to see preventable crashes cause by risky driving behaviors.” MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said on social media. “A family received serious injuries because a driver couldn’t just wait to the next exit. Be aware of your location and make smart decisions behind the wheel.”

Authorities did not identify the at-fault driver, as police are still investigating the crash.
