Celebrating National Men’s Health Month: Taking Charge of Men’s Health

    2024-06-24

June is National Men’s Health Month, a critical time to remind men about the unique health issues they face and the importance of taking proactive steps toward their well-being.

Despite the significant health challenges men encounter, statistics reveal a concerning trend: Men are less likely than women to visit a doctor or report symptoms. Only 60 percent of men undergo an annual check-up, and an alarming 40 percent delay seeking medical attention until a serious issue arises, according to the National Institutes of Health.

“Encourage your male loved ones to see a doctor. It could be a matter of life or death,” advised Dr. Bernadette Anderson, a family physician with over 20 years in health and wellness, in a press statement.

Anderso, creator of the wellness program, Fulfilled, is author of the book "Fulfilled: 52 Prescriptions for Healing, Health, and Happiness."

Men’s reluctance to seek medical help until it’s too late is a significant health concern. Regular check-ups are crucial in detecting potential health issues early, allowing for more effective treatment and management. Conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers can be better managed or even prevented with routine screenings and early intervention.
