SIC+ Production Company is proud to announce the upcoming film “One Mic,” starring rising star Nia Thompson and veteran actor Malik Yoba. A Magical Journey through Music and Family
In "One Mic," Thompson plays Maya Rivera, a 12-year-old girl growing up in the Bronx with her single father, Zavion, portrayed by Malik Yoba. Maya discovers a broken microphone that magically transforms into a powerful tool, giving her the gift of rhyming. Her newfound “super-powered rap flows” help her navigate the ups and downs of adolescence, all while being raised by her father. The film beautifully weaves themes of empowerment, resilience, and family.

    A History-Making Executive Producer
Thompson, fresh off a successful Broadway run as Young Nala in Disney’s Tony Award-winning musical The Lion King, will now be making history as the youngest Executive Producer of a major motion picture. Previously, this title was held by Marsai Martin, who became an Executive Producer at 14 with her film Little. Thompson’s move into producing solidifies her as a trailblazer in the entertainment industry.

    Veteran Talent Joins the Cast
Alongside Thompson, award-winning actor Malik Yoba, best known for his roles in New York Undercover and Cool Runnings, will bring a seasoned presence to the film. His portrayal of Zavion, Maya's father, will add depth to the family dynamic, bringing heart and gravitas to the project.

Behind the Scenes: SIC+ and Hezues R
“One Mic” is being developed by SIC+ (Social Impact Content), a Yonkers-based production studio known for empowering filmmakers with a focus on social impact storytelling. Director Hezues R helms the project, and his collaboration with Thompson has already proven to be a dynamic partnership.

“When you have a project this special, someone will always emerge who perfectly embodies the role,” said Hezues R. “At just 12 years old, Nia commands an incredible amount of respect for her craft. Her stellar performance as Young Nala in The Lion King was only part of what convinced us—she is Maya Rivera.”

SIC+ and the Future of Social Impact Filmmaking
SIC+ operates out of the largest studio complex in the U.S., based in Yonkers, NY. The company provides a platform for underrepresented filmmakers and creators, offering access to industry resources that help them showcase their talents on a global stage.

The studio also oversees the S.I.C. TANK, a high-tech mobile production vehicle that supports live broadcasts, mobile editing, and drone operations, as well as the S.I.C. Film School, a pioneering education platform offering VR, AR, and XR arts education.

With One Mic, SIC+ is poised to make waves not just in filmmaking but in broader social impact storytelling, combining top-tier talent with a powerful message.
