LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Safety City Summer Academy is celebrating a successful season. This week marked the end of this year's academy, filled with important lessons and activities at Safety City. Hundreds of kids have graduated with new skills to protect them from potentially dangerous scenarios. Parents and instructors watched proudly as the children earned their certificates and bags of completion at the ceremony.

Allen County Museum to open new exhibition
LIMA — The Allen County Museum will open its last temporary exhibition of the year, “The Art of Domesticity” on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 620 W. Market St. in Lima. The exhibition will share contemporary art from five women artists, as well as decorative arts from the 19th and 20th centuries, with a lecture series starting in September and workshops starting in October to go with it.

DELPHOS – Dave Joseph knows he not only owns a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere, but he’s also the caretaker of a memory for those people who knew the late Kyle Lewis. Lewis was a barber in Lima for more than 50 years. He was famous for his one-liners and for his love for cars. Before passing away two years ago at age 71, he could be found playing an integral part of many car shows. Often that would be as a Barney Fife impersonator, something he enjoyed doing since 2004.

Kayaking concert takes to the water
Shamarr Allen, a trumpeter from New Orleans, will take the stage, sort of, in Toledo on Wednesday night. Mr. Allen is set to be the first of three performances this summer on the Maumee River as part of Black Swamp Conservancy’s Paddle and Groove series. He will play on a pontoon boat as listeners kayak around him. Attendees will launch in their kayaks from International Park at 5:30 p.m. and then kayak downstream toward the sunflower murals on the Glass City River Wall. The goal of the event is both to provide listeners with a unique concert experience and increase awareness of the conservancy’s work both upstream and in the downtown area.
