Lou Trapani, 76, Life Force Behind the CENTER for Performing Arts in Rhinebeck, Dies of Cancer
Lou Trapani, 76, the life force behind the CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck for more than a quarter century, has died after a battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his life partner, Emily DePew, sister, and loving friends in the weeks before his death. He died at home in Tivoli, friends close to him told The Daily Catch Saturday.

State to pay for half of bridge projects in Burlington, Sharon, Washington: 'State of good repair'
Bridges in need of repair or replacement in Burlington, Sharon and Washington are receiving funds from the Connecticut Department of Transportation to pay for the projects. The DOT's State Local Bridge Program provides 50 percent of the funding for bridge projects; municipalities pay the other 50 percent. The program this year is proving more than $15.8 million in grants for 18 projects in Connecticut.
Ulster County awaits state OK to start cleanup of New Paltz site for 911 call center
KINGSTON, N.Y. — Ulster County continues to wait for the OK from the state Department of Environmental Conservation to begin cleanup of the New Paltz site selected as the county’s new 911 call center and government operations center. Plans for the project are moving ahead, however, and officials remain hopeful the county will be able to put the project out for bid in September.

Brenda Baratta Smith passed away at her home on July 13, 2024. She was surrounded by her family while Neil Diamond songs played in the background. Brenda was born on July 3, 1941 in Poughkeepsie to the late Katherine and William G. Baratta, Sr. Brenda graduated from Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 1959 and attended Dutchess Community College. She had a long career as a legal secretary, and administrative assistant to the mayor of Hamden, CT. Brenda married Arthur Smith on July 13, 1985. They shared a beautiful life together for 39 years. Brenda and Art moved to North Carolina, where she was a property manager for several years. She was a skilled gardener and enjoyed spending time in her outdoor haven. Brenda enjoyed reading, spending time at the beach, having dinner with friends, and spending time with her family, particularly in her gazebo. She was also an ardent advocate for those who served our country. She will be remembered for her charismatic personality, her undying loyalty to family and friends, and her infectious laugh. She will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

A Hudson Valley card player just cleaned up at the World Series of Poker. Francis Anderson has been chasing the gold bracelet in the World Series of Poker for five years. According to cardplayer.com, The Wappingers Falls native started his quest with a fourth-place finish in a 2019 marathon event after moving to Las Vegas full-time to become a professional card player. Two years later, he earned just under $450,000 with a third-place win in a "Monster Stack" tournament. Last year, during a Hall of Fame Bounty event, Anderson finished in fourth place.
