Every previous routine or life plan needs to be rethought, in the light of a barrage of medical information that can often feel overwhelming. Luckily, there are some human support systems in place, ideally staffed by survivors who know from experience what it’s like to go through such a terrifying transition. But the spotlight is necessarily on the individual with the illness; the effects on family members – particularly children of mothers with breast cancer – often get overlooked.
Consolidation consultant contract approved; council comments to come
At a jointly-held meeting on July 10, New Paltz town and village leaders spoke about how an effort to consolidate these two local governments might move forward. In discussing a proposal for a work plan prepared through the Laberge Group, it became clear that holding a public vote on the question of consolidation this November is unrealistic.

With the Rosendale Street Festival coming up this weekend, it seems a perfect time to say howdee to Peter Head, frontman of perennial street fest favorite Pitchfork Militia. If you haven’t seen them yet, Pitchfork puts on a show that kicks like a mule. Based mainly in Palenville, the band first got together in 1995. They put out six cassette tapes in their first four years, then, when CD production became more reasonable, they started cranking those out as well, fifteen to date.

All New Paltz students are now eligible to for a free breakfast and lunch
The “good news for everyone, just announced here hot off the presses,” according to superintendent Stephen Gratto is that the New Paltz Central School District (NPCSD) was approved for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a meal service option for schools to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without having to collect household eligibility applications. The grant gives all students in the NPCSD a free breakfast and lunch for the next four school years.
